This is a weekly recap of what we are working on. Week 37 10/9/23 – 15/9/23
Another busy week servicing vehicles in Harare! Monday and Tuesday we had routine maintenance covering Honda, Toyota & Mazda vehicles. Nice, clean & well maintained cars with only a few minor advisories for the customers to monitor until next service.
Wednesday brought problems with a hard starting Isuzu D-Max with suspected compression issues. Broken glow plug on cylinder 1 and stuck plug on cylinder 2 put an end to any compression test.
Thursday we brought in specialist help to try & remove the broken plugs without such luck – Head removal required. Investigation into compression problems will be done manually. Thursday afternoon brought about clutch problems on a Mazda bakkie (and a quick door latch clean and lube to rectify a stuck door)
Friday morning – More routine servicing on 2 matching Hilux’s. Again nice, well maintained vehicles without any issues of note.
Friday afternoon brought a return to the D-Max to remove the head. With some liner wear to cylinder one & two a leak down test will be carried out. The head on the other hand looks good but upon leak testing the valve seats there is clear compression leaks through 80% of the valve seats. A good result when unable to compression test due to the broken glow plugs.
Next week shapes up with a Land Cruiser for wheel bearing greasing & adjustment along with an inspection to suspension, engine & driveline components. A trip to the machine shop to take care of the leaky D-Max head, some brake replacements and more servicing.
